From the Author:
I've always been a voracious reader with history and romance being my genre of choice. The first "giant" novel I ever picked up and read was by Jude Deveraux called The Velvet Promise ... I think I might have been 12 at the time. I loved it and then proceeded to read every Jude Deveraux book I could get my hands on. I also had a unquenchable thirst for historical books, both fact and fiction. I think I'm one of the few people that ordered the 2000 page book, The Timetables of History and read it from cover to cover. In school, I was the one jumping with excitement any time we were given a history report to write. There was no need to check out books from the library in order to complete the task, all I had to do was go home and pick one off my shelf. I remember writing a report on William the Conqueror for my brother when he came home and complained that he had to turn one in for his World History Class ... how could anyone not like reading about William the Conqueror? I thought to myself.
In middle school I would sneak notebooks into class and write 20 page stories about my friends and me being trapped in the mall during a "red dawn" type attack of our town. Those 30 page stories soon turned into history driven 100 page stories which turned into 400 pagers. I've got notebooks and notebooks stored in a closet of all the stories I wrote when I was younger. But the day that changed my life was towards the end of my senior year in high school.
It was our "end of the year" party that the teachers hosted for the seniors. There was an old jukebox in the corner and someone played a song from 1972 called "Brandy, You're a Fine Girl" by Looking Glass. As I listened to the words of the song, the story struck a chord with me and I thought to myself, I'm going to write a book about that song. And so I did. Out of all the characters I've created, JD is my favorite. He is so beautifully flawed, so hauntingly damaged that you can't help wanting to slap him and marry him in the same paragraph. It's been over 20 years since I wrote the book that started my leap into writing. I still love telling my stories and I hope that you all still enjoy reading them.
